Clyde is a small mountain town in Haywood
County, nestled between Canton and Waynesville North Carolina. Despite Clyde’s
small size of just less than one square mile, it’s full of character.

two of the most significant employers in Haywood
County, but it's location in the Blue Ridge

Shook-Smathers House, the oldest house in Haywood County, is the historic treasure of this charming town. The more than two hundred year old home was restored after a descendant of the original builder purchased it. When built, the home defied the standard log home; this home was built using homemade nails and foot wide timbers. During the 1800s the home served as a place of worship for traveling Methodist preachers. Later, a second building was built on the property, Louisa Chapel. Louisa Chapel, to this day, still holds worship services deeming it the oldest Methodist Church in Haywood County.
